Goal
In an open and equal partnership, Zuivelfabriek De Graafstroom, the province of South Holland, Zuivelcoöperatie DeltaMilk (a cooperative of dairy farmers), Rabobank, Waterschap Rivierenland and Wageningen University & Research are joining forces to realise the following shared ambitions:
- future-proof agriculture in the peat meadow region
- a solution for subsidence
- the restoration of biodiversity in the Groene Hart
- a climate-proof water system
- economically resilient farms

Themes
SOIL SUBSIDENCE
We are investigating whether adding water to the soil through pipes (level-controlled water infiltration) can stop the subsidence in the region, or at least significantly reduce it.

BIODIVERSITY
We research and invest in measures including herb-rich grasslands that contribute to healthy soil life and the unique meadow bird population of black-tailed godwits, lapwings, redshanks and snipe.

REVENUE MODELS
We are working to develop revenue models based around biodiversity and the reduction of subsidence and CO₂ emissions, based on CO₂ credits. Companies that want to offset their emissions invest via these CO₂ credits in lower emissions by the peat meadow region.

KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT
We are developing knowledge about climate-proof and future-proof agriculture in the Groene Hart.
